Our Star at TM District 85 Fall Conference 2011 and Results

0
Dear Members and Friends,

In the past District 85 Fall Conference 2011, our member and VPE Tobie has won the 2nd runner-up in the Humorous Speech Contest! It is an unparallable achievement, but it is definitely not an “accident”! ; ) There are 191 Clubs and about 4500 members in total in the whole District, which covers Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. She took the challenge, made the efforts, and created history for us and has entered into the “Hall of Fame” of our Club. : )

Let’s join together to celebrate her success, especially in the coming Christmas Party to be held on 16 December!

Here I also forward the result of the contests at District level. Relevant photos and briefings of the conference will be uploaded to our club website later.

Meeting#254: Accident will happen…

0
Dear All,

How many accidents will happen in one’s life?
How many of them are desired or unexpected ?

Next meeting theme just comes out accidentally.
Come to the meeting and maybe you can find what you want for public speaking.

“Accidents will happen…”
“Accidents happen now and again, just when you least expect
Just when you think that life is okay, fate comes to collect
Accidents happen now and again, when people or trains get smart
If you don’t concentrate on the thing that you’re doing
Accidents will happen, just like that”

Never say never, sometimes there are no accidents in life.
Give it a shot, you may get what you want.

Will I see you “accidentally” ?

Cheers and best regards,
Tobie
VPE

Dear Fellow Toastmasters and Guests,

In every day’s life, we need to communicate.  To avoid any misunderstanding or miscommunication, we should keep our speech to be CLEAR & SIMPLe.  If you use too difficult vocabulary or slang or speak like a shooting gun, not everyone will get you mean and say.

The most important goal of effective communication is to speak “Clarity & Simplicity”.

Let’s try on our next regular meeting on 7November2011.

PS: 1.  Enclosed the agenda for your reference.

Now We’ve Had our Champion!

0

Dear fellow Toastmasters and friends,

If we never take actions, we never know how far we can go. The longest journey begins with a single step….The single step can be as simple as joining Toastmasters, and joining the club contest.

It’s the story happening around us. Our friend Tobie did it.

Saturday afternoon our member and VPE Tobie won the Champion of Division G Humorous Speech Contest in Hong Kong. (For details and photos of the Contest, please visit our website: http://macautoastmasters.org/division-g-humorous-speech-contest-in-hk/  )

Tobie will represent our Club, our Area G3 and our Division G to compete in the District 85 Fall Conference on 4-6 Nov 2011 in Hong Kong. There she will compete with the elite speakers from Mainland China and Hong Kong.

We appreciate that she brings such a great honor to our Club. Let’s express our sincere congratulations and support for her. And we will follow the good example and standard she has set for us.

She probably didn’t really hoped to go so far at the beginning, but what made a difference is she decided to join the contests and take the challenge, and most importantly, to pursue the path of striving for excellence.

She is like a diamond, having been polished, and is shinning now.

I would like to say that the spirit of Toastmaster is not to let each of us to be the Champion, but to encourage us to live our dreams and to bring our potential into full play.

Let’s start our wonderful journey to realize our different dreams by starting the very first steps, at our work, in our study, in our life, and in our family…

Warmest regards,

Jane

Division G Humorous Speech Contest in HK

0

The contest took place on 16, October in Hong Kong. It is to select the representatives from different divisions to attend the contest at Disrict G 85 level.

Hong Kong and Macau has 3 Divisions, namely Divisions H, K and G. The contests for these three divisions were held consecutively in that afternoon.

There were altogether 7 contestants in Division G Humorous Speech Contest, two from Macau and representing Area G3: Tobie Yeung( from Macau Toastmasters Club, and Sylvia Cheang (from Macau Mandarin Toastmasters Club). The other five contestants are from HK clubs, and representing other Areas in Division G.

Tobie was the fifth to speak. Her speech won not only many laughters from the audiences, but also many times of applauds. The response from audiences was very encouraging. Sylvia was the last to speak. Her speech also won lots of support too.

Tobie won the Champion of the contest and Sylvia the Second Runner-up. It’s a great achievement for all Macau toastmasters. Sitting on the spot, I was very excited, proud and touched.

After the contest, Tobie became a “star”. Many audiences went to her to express their fond of her speech and the inspirations they got from her speech.

The contests of Division H and K were equivalent excellent. There were especially many experienced speakers in Division K Contest.
